This is a beautiful Staurolite "Fairy Cross" specimen from Keivy, Kola Peninsula, Russia. Not only does this specimen have an excellent cross formation, but the cross formation is on both sides! The matrix rock is called Schist (a type of metamorphic rock) and has a beautiful sparkly silver appearance (the silvery sparkle does not show well in photos, because the camera has difficulty focusing on it … it is much prettier in person). This is an excellent size and shape for jewelry. Very, very pretty! So much nicer than the photos. Staurolite is also referred to as "Fairy Stone" and is considered a talisman of good fortune. |
